Harihari Coastal walkway

Head out on this 8.4-km out-and-back trail near Harihari, West Coast. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 56 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and walking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are October through April.

Amethyst natural hot pools

A hidden gem, Park at the Harihari power plant and follow markers to find the hot springs, about 15-30mins walk. Don't get uneasy, you'll take in nature, local plants, river running and beautiful country scenery with rocky terrain.

Wilberg Walk

The track climbs gently through a rimu forest and wanders along a terrace behind the Harihari township, with occasional views through the forest to the farmland below, about 30minutes. Glowworms can be viewed from late evening hanging from the trees.

Lake Ianthe

A beautiful spot to relax, just North of Harihari – it is popular for Boating, Swimming, Trout and Salmon fishing.

Hokitika Gorge Walk

A true photogenic gem — brilliant turquoise water fringed with stark white limestone cliffs and lush green rainforest — Hokitika Gorge is one of the West Coast’s most instantly recognisable scenes.

Treetop Walk and Zipline

An exhilarating treetop adventure set amongst the stunning West Coast of New Zealand, and it's temperate rainforest giants. Offering a unique perspective of life with the birds high in the ancient Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy, the canopy walk offers quite simply breathtaking vistas and an insight into canopy eco-systems. Easy access for all to enjoy along a steel platform 20 metres high and over 450 metres long.

Okarito 3 mile coastal walk

Follow Ōkārito Wetland Walk before continuing through coastal forest to climb over the Kohuamarua Bluff. The track meanders through wind-shorn rimu, rātā and silver pine forest before dropping down to Three Mile Lagoon - a sheltered estuary fringed with rimu forest.

Franz Josef Glacier

The walk to the viewing area winds gently through the rainforest, with glimpses of the mountain tops, waterfalls and the upper glacier. A short uphill section leads you to a view of the valley, with the Waiho River winding its way towards the coast.
